Trauma Informed Body Work

Body work services are provided by Jodie Lindley RMT, SEP of Soma Essence Healing, in conjunction with Neuro Soma Wellness. Body work therapy, facilitated through touch, fosters a profound sense of resonance and relaxation in both body and mind. This approach allows for the gentle release of subconscious material, including body memories and beliefs that contribute to persistent symptoms like anxiety and pain. Combining body work sessions can benefit the psychotherapeutic process. It can yield deep and lasting effects, aiming to enhance the client’s awareness of their thoughts and bodily sensations while fostering the ability to experience emotions more deeply without becoming overwhelmed or dissociated.

The therapies we provide include…

Cranio Sacral Therapy

CST and SE are nervous system-based modalities which can help the body discharge “trauma” that remains long after a stressful experience.

What does this mean exactly?

When we have experienced a situation in life that was beyond our ability to “deal with” at the time, this moment becomes frozen … frozen in our mind and our body. This frozen trauma disorganizes the body physiology and biology, and we end up with symptoms: anxiety/depression, insomnia, physical/mental/emotional pain, and syndromes like Chronic Fatigue, to name a few.

CST and SE together engage the body directly via light touch hands on work, and the mind via gentle inquiry into the current experience: presenting images, memories, sensations, thoughts and body movements and impulses.

The frozen energy can be contacted and will begin to move and seek to complete any survival responses that were not able to finish at the time. This helps bring resolution and reconciliation to both the body and mind.

Changing the nervous system and body “bracing” takes time … a perceptible shift or change is typically noticed after 4 sessions on a weekly basis, but in many cases ongoing treatment is required.

Somatic Experiencing

SE™ is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and stress disorders. It seeks to discharge “traumatic shock” from the body and nervous system, within a safe tolerance level. It helps to renegotiate past experiences that create physiological and psychological dysfunction and pain. SE™ Touch Work integrated with bodywork can increase a person’s capacity for challenging body sensations and suppressed emotions. It is a way to slow down and slowly expand the nervous system, and encourage the resolution of blocked fight, flight or freeze energy. SE™ was discovered and developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine for over 45 years and has been proven to be “key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma.”

CranioSacral Therapy & SomatoEmotional Release

The body is a wise part of us. It is our record keeper: it stores every memory, thought and feeling since being born, and even before we are born. Therefore, it is a part of us that has important information about why we are “not well”.

CranioSacral Therapy is a hands-on treatment that accesses the deeper tissues and structures of the body, namely those surrounding the brain and spinal cord. You might call this “core healing work”, as it addresses our core – the nervous system.

I believe that every trauma we experience goes deep into the body, and stays there as an energetic blueprint, or memory. CST can access these deeper blueprints, through our fascial system. This system is our “living body armour” that surrounds everything in the body. It is the connective tissue that stores memory and experience.

The body is the lead in CST therapy. As therapist, I place my hands onto the recipient’s body and wait. I never force, as after many years as a deep tissue RMT, I discovered that forcing the body to relax and unwind does the exact opposite: creates tension, and drives trauma further into the body. The goal is to help the body feel safe.

The body directs the focus and provides the opportunity to resolve what is being held that is blocking up the entire system, in a safe and supportive environment.

An integral component to CST is “SomatoEmotional Release” (SER), which is the discharge of physical and emotional memories from the body, which may happen during a session. CST gently releases frozen memories and emotions that are trapped in the tissues.

In combination with Somatic Experiencing® (see below) this is done at a slow pace, to avoid overwhelm and encourage integration.

Pure Energy Sessions

This session is pure energy work, using Reiki and/or shamanic/traditional interventions.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a form of hands-on-healing, that stimulates the recipient’s body into states of healing and balancing. It promotes relaxation, stimulates the body’s innate healing processes, and has the ability to shift consciousness.

Shamanic healing involves therapeutic work on the soul and energy body (aura). In shamanic traditions, it is believed that every human dis-ease or disharmony begins on the energetic level: that is, at the level of the soul’s blueprint, and aura or energy field. Shamans “see” what is at odds with the human energy field and use traditional methods to bring healing and balance back into the system.

Pure energy sessions can be provided via distance healing as well.
